Envirothon ~ May 2005

The First Annual San Luis Obispo County Envirothon was held in May at the
San Luis Obispo  Botanical Gardens in El Chorro Regional Park.

Two Teams, Arroyo Grande High School and Nipomo High School
spent the afternoon on an excursion through the riparian area of the park and came together afterwards to test their knowledge.

The day began at the Amphitheater of the San Luis Obispo Botanical Gardens.
Ken Levine and Teresa Lees of the Botanical Garden describe the area and the excursion the students were about to take.
The two schools then went on a field trip up the riparian corridor,
half from each school with Ken and half from each school with Teresa.

Both teams made their way back to the Amphitheater

It was time to split up back into the two school teams and begin the competition
The two teams huddled on opposite sides of the amphitheater and discussed each of the questions carefully before turning in their final answers.
Above, Jim Empey, Arroyo Grande High, watched as his students discussed solutions to the first
question
Above Lori Dixon, Nipomo High School enjoyed some sun and watched as her students debate their answers
Everyone enjoyed snacks provided by, Doc Burnstein's Ice Cream, Trader Joe's, Spencer's Fresh Markets ... while the scores were being tabulated
